Saamy 2 Telugu Movie Review

✅ Fact Checked

Saamy is the dubbed version of the Tamil action film Saamy 2 (Saamy square) starring Vikram and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles. Shibu Thameens produced the film. Hari has directed it. The film was released worldwide simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages on 21st Sep 2018.

Saamy 2 Story

It is the sequel to Saamy. The remake of Saamy was released in Telugu as Lakshmi Narasimha starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and Asin in lead roles. The film starts where the first part has ended. After Dharma Bhikshu (Kota Srinivasa Rao) gets killed at the hands of a strict police officer, Parashurama Saamy (Vikram), his three sons living in Colombo return to Vijayawada and erect his statue in Vijayawada. Ravana (Bobby Simha) kills Saamy and his pregnant wife to avenge his father’s death. However, the parents of Saamy run away with an infant and live in exile for 28 years. Ramasaamy (Vikram) grows up to become an IPS officer and takes charge in Vijayawada. The daughter of a minister, Diya (Keerthy Suresh) falls for him after he saves her from abduction. The rest of the story is about how Ramasaamy avenged the death of his parents.

Story Analysis

It is an out-and-out masala film targeted at B and C center audiences. Additionally, the narrative is confusing. The transformation between past and present is abrupt and the audience may not cope with the change. The director should have given some time for the build-up of the setting as the first version is more than a decade old. The action is good and is entertaining for the mass audiences but may appear routine to the general audiences. The comedy has a Tamil flavor and is loud. Moreover, the love track is forced into the story without much explanation. The confrontation scenes between Vikram and Bobby Simha are a feast for the mass audiences. Overall, Saamy 2 is a complete mass entertainer.

Performances

Vikram is superb as an honest and dynamic police officer. He looks young and his performance is full of energy. Keerthy Suresh doesn’t have much scope but she impresses with subtlety and glamour. Bobby Simha is an asset to the film and lives up to expectations. Prabhu has a brief role and he is good.

Technical Analysis

The script could have been better as it seems outdated. The production values are decent. The cinematography is good and the visuals are rich. The songs are just okay and the background score is average. Only a couple of tracks were reused for the majority of the film without putting much effort into the music. The editing is extremely bad and the film appears to be the bits and pieces from Saamy and Singham films. Better editing could have doubled the collections of the film. The direction doesn’t meet the expectations. The film is more like Singham instead of Saamy 2. The trademarks and style of Saamy are missing in the sequel.

Conclusion

Saamy 2 is a feast for the mass audiences as many scenes appeal to them. However, the general audience may not like the film but is watchable. Although the story happens in Vijayawada, the film is full of Tamil nativity. It would have been better if they remade it instead of dubbing it. The Tamil version could be successful but the commercial performance of the Telugu version is doubtful.
