The Mahesh-Sukumar film made a buzz when rumors made rounds in social media circles that Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif is approached for the female lead. The rumors surfaced in early January but she didn’t respond to them. The rumors finally reached the actress and she responded in an interview. She said that she hasn’t signed any film after the Bollywood flick Bharat starring Salman Khan in the lead role. She further added that the makers of the Mahesh-Sukumar film didn’t approach her for any role. It is the second collaboration of Mahesh Babu and Sukumar after 1-Nenokkadine. The project will launch after the release of Maharshi.
Katrina Kaif played an important role in the 2018 film Thugs of Hindostan, which bombed the box office. Thugs of Hindostan features Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Fatima Sana Shaikh in lead roles. The film disappointed the audience and ended up with heavy losses. Katrina appeared in Zero as well, which resulted in an even bigger flop. However, she has high expectations for Bharat. It is set to release in 2019 Eid amid huge expectations. She worked in Venkatesh starrer Malliswari and Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Allari Pidugu in her early career. But soon she became busy with her Bollywood projects and never returned to Tollywood. If she works in Mahesh Babu film, then it will be her second innings in Telugu cinema.
