Rajinikanth’s Petta Relies Heavily Upon the First Day Talk

Rajinikanth starrer Petta landed in controversy in Telugu states as it didn’t get enough theaters and the distributor blamed Allu Aravind, UV Creations, and Dil Raju for not providing theaters. However, Dil Raju has countered it in a mature way saying that they have adjusted the theaters with difficulty as 3 star-studded films are competing at the box office. The Telugu distributor of Petta, Vallabhaneni Ashok, bought the rights at a fancy price and decided not to postpone the release. The fate of the film, Petta, now relies heavily upon the word-of-mouth talk on the first day. Although 2.0 collected over 50 Crores in the Telugu version, it didn’t have competition at that time and is a prestigious project. But Petta is competing with 3 major Telugu films of various genres.

Petta doesn’t have enough buzz in Bollywood either as the makers have not promoted it well as they focused only on the Tamil version. The Telugu version was named after selling the rights and the promotions were not on par with any high-budget film. Moreover, Petta is an out-and-out mass entertainer which has to compete with Ram Charan’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama at B and C centers while the A-center audience might prefer NTR: Kathanayakudu and F2: Fun and Frustration as they both are family entertainers. The director, Karthik Subbaraj, never handled any high budget film earlier and the promos of Petta are filled with celebration of the stardom of Rajinikanth which raises questions about the content of the film. It has stiff competition at the Tamil Nadu box office too as Ajith-starrer Viswasam is competing with it.

However, Petta has an ensemble cast of talented actors including Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Trisha, and Simran. Trisha recently appeared in the dubbed film Mohini. The performances are going to be top-notch and the visuals from the promos are splendid. A positive talk is a must for the film to survive in such stiff competition.
