F2 – Fun and Frustration Story:

Two Indians, Venky (Venkatesh) and Varun (Varun Tej) get arrested in Europe and narrate their story to the investigation officer. Venky is an orphan and dreams of a beautiful life after marriage but is frustrated by his wife (Tamannaah) and her family. His problems grow when his sister-in-law, Honey (Mehreen Pirzada), arrives. Honey loves Varun and their parents agree to their marriage. Although Varun is initially confident about controlling his wife after marriage, he struggles to satisfy the demands of in-laws and his mother. The frustrated Venky and Varun escape to Europe to run away from their problems. The rest of the story is about how they sorted out their problems and reunite with their loved ones.

Story Analysis:

The film is totally inspired from ‘Pellam Oorelithe’ to the extent that some scenes are directly rehashed from the original. However, Anil Ravipudi has expertise in writing comedy and he comes up with hilarious sequences. The quirks of some characters made them unique and memorable. The first half has abundant entertainment that keeps audience engaged throughout. The chemistry between Venkatesh and Varun Tej worked out very well. Some scenes remind us of vintage Venkatesh comedy. There are tens of such films in 90s but the trend has disappeared over the years. The lack of serious conflict makes the film a casual popcorn entertainer.

The second half has lost track and moves around a single thread. A lot of characters are introduced together, keeping most of them inactive. This has spoiled the pace built until interval and the only supporting role that has consistency in second half is that of Rajendra Prasad. The entire Vennela Kishore episode as Don Jon Snow, the king of the North is boring. The audience who don’t know anything about Game of Thrones series may find him awkward. However, some comedy scenes in the second half worked out. 30 years Prudhvi episodes are hilarious. The climax abruptly ends the threads of many characters established over the run time. Overall, the film has a wafer-thin plot with good comedy sequences.

Venkatesh is superb in his role and he carries the entire film on his shoulders. His comedy timing is phenomenal and many scenes worked in the film only because of him. Varun Tej is good in the film. It is an achievement for him to match the comedy timing of Venkatesh. His Telangana slang is convincing. Tamannaah overacts during some scenes but delivered settled performance in majority of the film. Mehreen is out of sync in many scenes but she is backed by other actors throughout the film. As the genre is comedy, some scenes of overaction worked in their favour.

Rajendra Prasad has a key role and he impresses with his performance. Prakash Raj is good in a stereotype role. Prudhvi has a different role from what he has been doing recently and he doesn’t disappoint with it. Vennela Kishore is an unnecessary addition to the film. Several familiar actors appear in minor roles.

Technical Analysis:

The story is a routine comedy drama without any serious conflict and development. The screenplay made it interesting. The production values are grand. The cinematography is good. The music by Devi Sri Prasad elevates the tone of the film. The editing is griping with a linear narration. The direction by Anil Ravipudi is not commendable. He solely depends on the comedy unlike his previous films which have strong emotional plot. However, he proves his mettle in comedy.

F2 – Fun and Frustration is an entertaining film with a regular story. The film offers vintage comedy of Venkatesh and entertainment. Overall, it is a one-time watch.
