Nannu Dochukunduvate is a romantic comedy film starring Sudheer Babu and Nabha Natesh in lead roles. Sudheer Babu produced the film under his home banner Sudheer Babu Productions. RS Naidu directed the film in his debut. The film released worldwide on 21st Sep, 2018.
Nannu Dochukunduvate Story:
Karthik (Sudheer Babu) is a strict manager with plans to settle in USA and climb the corporate ladder. As his family pressurises him to get married, he plans to avoid the marriage proposals by employing a short film actress, Meghana (Nabha Natesh), as his fake girlfriend. The personality of Meghana is in contrast with Karthik and they start to like each other. However, Karthik feels that the love is disturbing his professional career and decides to stay away from her. How they reunited and whether Karthik chooses love over career forms the crux of the story.
Nannu Dochukunduvate is a copy of (rather adaptation of) 2009 Hollywood film, ‘The Proposal’ with genders switched. The original was a ‘chick-flick’ with the lead actress over-shadowing all others and was a blockbuster at boxoffice. Incidentally, Sandra Bullock, who played the strict boss in original was an executive producer of the film, while Sudheer Babu produced the Telugu version himself. The second half of Nannu Dochukunduvate is mostly original, except the climax. Moreover, the climax is the most boring part which exposes the poor writing.
Nannu Dochukunduvate Story Analysis:
Nannu Dochukunduvate has a decent first half and an average second half. The entire comedy track carried over the shoulders of Nabha Natesh who played the role of Meghana as a bubbly girl. The chemistry between lead pair is good and the transformation of characters is believable. The subtleties during emotional scenes in second half are well directed. However, the conflict is extremely weak and is not sufficient for a complete film. There should have been subplots to make the main story interesting. Moreover, the lead pair appear literally throughout the film and the film doesn’t set the mood and tone required through other characters. The film appeals to the audience visually but there is not much to hold them until the climax.
Sudheer Babu effortlessly fits into the role of a strict manager. Additionally, his performance during emotional scenes is good. Nabha Natesh is an asset to the film and her performance in the film will fetch her more opportunities in Tollywood.
The writing is patchy and the screenplay should have been better. The dialogues are great and are natural. The production values are decent. The songs could have been better. However, the background score is decent. The cinematography is good and the visuals are rich. The editing is uneven as the pace continuously changes. Moreover, the second half is boring. The direction is good and he has done a great job for a debutante.
Nannu Dochukunduvate is a regular rom-com with good characterizations and performances. The film may appeal to regular audience of rom-coms but whether it survives the big budget films coming from the next week onwards is doubtful.
